View from the fairway of the 18th green with Florida College in the background. As all golfers know, the 18th
hole is a very special place (if only because it is so close to the 19th hole). However, this 18th hole is even more special. It has a place in history. This is the very spot where the famous evangelist Dr. Billy Graham realized his divine providence.
Here is a quote from an interview with Dr. Graham (click here for a link to the full interview):
“I was in a small Bible school in Florida, near Tampa, and I just kept sensing that God was calling me (This was Florida
Bible Institute in 1938). It was subjective. Nothing objective. In fact, the objective arguments were totally against it because I didn't have any talent or ability that I knew of. I certainly was not a scholar.
So one night I was out on the 18th green of the Temple Terrace Golf Course,
because the golf course surrounded our school, and it was a moonlit night. I sat out there and I could just sense that God was speaking to me and He wanted me to work for Him. And I said to the Lord that night, "I'll go where you want me to go, I'll be what you want me to be." But I said, "Lord, you'll have to do it because I have nothing to give you." So from that moment on I knew I was to be in some form of Christian work.”
Keep this in mind the next time you miss a four foot putt on this green and are tempted to mutter something blasphemous under
your breath.
